Waiting on Tenterhooks for A Mystery Date, The Mortgage Issue Potentially Solved, House Work May Happen
Hello again, it's been a while so it's time to update on this slow, painful, but somewhat fraught process of moving to Japan.
At the moment, I wholly sympathise with all those overdue pregnant mums out there, having to endure daily repetitive nagging from every man, woman, non-binary persons, and all their dogs; "is it there yet?" "feel anything yet?" etc. On an almost daily basis, I get asked "when are you leaving?", or "have you got a date yet?" from well meaning people, and I won't lie, it is driving me slightly up the wall having to say the same thing again and again: "I don't find out until July, I will tell you when I know." You will all know when I know, it's not something I'm going to keep to myself you know. Time ticks, flights get more expensive, I can't do anything about it right now, don't remind me.
I have been told only basic information from Interac, which is vague enough to be completely useless for making any solid plans. I know I have been assigned Sendai branch, meaning I will be placed somewhere in Yamagata (YAY!), Miyagi, or Fukushima, and I'm leaving sometime in August. That is all I know. I have sent them more photos of me in business wear, and answer more of the same questions I'm sure I've done like 4 times now for Interac. I've mostly completed an online pre-training training course which had a slightly irritating patronising tone. (I know I've got this Interac, I don't need to sit through 5 hours of pep talk thanks, I'm busy enough as it is). To be fair, there was some work place specific information that was really helpful, but it all could have been said in a lot less time.
After many hours of phone calls to mortgage advisers, my mortgage provider, and finally a video conference with an adviser from my provider, we may finally have got an answer to our difficult mortgage situation (trying to renew a fixed rate home-owner mortgage whilst also moving abroad, and trying to rent out, is not recommended guys! Take it from me.). Without going into dull details, after initially being told there was nothing anyone could do for us, we did find a suitable rate that we could technically apply for. Fingers crossed Rosy gets his act together so we can quickly apply for it together, and fingers crossed we are accepted.
Finally, we have a date for the start of building work at the beginning of July. I am filled with anxiety that this random builder we found will do a good job, but time is running out, so I am just going to have faith. My mum may have finally sorted out a better kitchen design, but we still have to buy all the bits, and sort out someone to fit it in time for September. In the meantime, I should be tidying and packing up the loft, but I am not. Bad me.
Until next time, I hope I'll have good news.
